Digitalisation has long been one of the most important competitive factors! Today, more than ever, we need concepts for a SUCCESS·FULL·DYNAMIC·COMPOSABLE·ENTERPRISE! However, this only works with the full support of digitalisation!
Today, algorithms are the secret weapons of the great success of strongly digitalised companies and platforms. In many industries, digitisation already decides on SUCCESS, market position or survival. The Future of Applications' triggers are not any more Economic and Geopolitical Disruption, Market Disruption, Technolgy Advancement but the fourth element, the powerful big players or titans, called the Digital Dragons, especially "The Big Nine" leading digital corporations from the U.S. and China; Amazon, Google, Facebook, Tencent, Baidu, Alibaba, Microsoft, IBM and Apple. They are the new gods of digitalisation and AI and are short-changing our futures with their massive R&D investments how we work and how we can work, as they provide incredibly powerful tools, technologies and ecosystems, mastery of data, modern, hyper-scale platforms, and so much more.
Are you aware that we'll see more and more a new mindset, "The Everything Customer", which is not a customer segment! The "Everything" mindset crosses all segmentation boundaries. On the one hand, they want a simple user experience. Still, in reality, they want a full, rich experience with all features and functions, which leads from former low expectations to Everything. This is following the trend, as digital giants raised the bar, such as speeding up the fulfilment and delivery from days to 2 hours, or a bank account opening from 1 hour to 5 minutes, processing claims handling from days to 3 seconds, B2B procurement from month to seconds, offering bank fees from a monthly fee to free. The Everything Customer prefers a multichannel platform. They want 24/7 self-service and agent-assisted; they have seemingly conflicting needs and like free stuff but will pay for premium. They also wish to access you via digital giants, the digital dragons. "Free"- like free shipping, free financing, etc. becomes the norm for Everything Customers. Serving the Everything Customer creates new dilemmas for enterprises. So, how will you serve them?
Digital is not an option; it is a must. Businesses need to become more flexible, more agile, deliver faster than before, and require minimum viable management. One should also constantly keep watching for potential future digital key disruption technologies. Some of them might become game-changing forces, and at today’s pace in digital technology developments, five years of decision-making have become an eternity. Therefore, an innovative digitalisation concept with a strong vision and humble disrespect must be part of your strategic thinking!
But exercise caution: avoid hasty, massive investments without really understanding and checking in advance whether these and not others are right for you!
Making you SUCCESS·FULL·Digitisation is one of my core competencies, a field in which I have always been a pioneer, a trailblazer.
The pandemic acted as an incredible accelerator of digitalisation, and one can't turn back the clocks. It is essential to understand: digitisation is a permanent process! People who think they can achieve a permanent DIGITALISATION ·SUCCESS by a "Once-and-Done" approach are seriously mistaken! As Sam Palmisano, the former CEO and boss of IBM, so aptly put it recently in a Bloomberg TV interview: "(Digital) Technology never stops. It never stops. It's on steroids, and it continues to reinvent itself and reinvent".
Business application leaders often underestimate the complex challenges of digitisation. That can result in hindering the organisation from achieving business goals. And be aware that traditional technology and integration capabilities cannot meet evolving business needs because they do not support new requirements.
It should make one think that more than 90 % of all successful global disruptors have never worked in the targeted industry before. They are successfully dismantling utilising digitalisation and sophisticated algorithms and the support of artificial intelligence (AI). In the process, they are degrading incumbents - often established over decades - to outsiders in their particular business fields and markets. Successful disruptors dictate the game's new rules because they all have one strategic DNA in common: to delight their customers as much as possible with leading digital solutions and a stunningly excellent customer experience across all business processes, from start to finish - whatever the cost. Designing great customer experiences (CX) is getting easier with the rise of predictive analytics as they help you to understand your customers more deeply and to gain the advantages. Meanwhile, many executives recognize that survey-based measurement systems don't meet their businesses' CX needs of superior customer experience but still can't find the right way to jump on the new bandwagon.
So the bar is set pretty high. "Life itself will punish us if we are late", Mikhail Gorbachev quoted as early as 1989. Those who do not come close to catching up in terms of digitalisation, and do so quickly - or become pioneers par excellence themselves - risk becoming "digital illiterates", losers. However, those who seize and master this opportunity and challenge can gain a great deal in the long run and even open up new business models, markets and opportunities.
